Many of you local to Normanby will have known Cynthia since your childhood.

Sincere condolences to Cynthia’s family from our members.

At our Group’s meeting on 25th May a minute’s silence was held and our Chairman John Richardson said:

"Most of you will probably have heard the very sad news that one of our members, Cynthia Womack, sadlly passed away earlier this month.
Many people in this area will remember Cynthia for the impact she had on their lives as a teacher.
Cynthia was also very well known for her dedication to this Methodist Church including for example the energy she gave, along with Bill Middlemiss, in setting up and running the church Senior Youth Group.
Cynthia was a very valued member of our History Group for over 20 years serving as an executive member of the committee helping to shape and guide the development of our group.
Both Cynthia and her husband Keith were active members and regular attendees who could be relied upon to give a helping hand in our group’s many activities.
We will really miss her contributions to our group and most of all Cynthia will be remembered for being constantly cheerful, positive, warm and frendly."

Two residents, Cynthia Womack and Mrs Nicholson, shared their memories of wartime Britain and past VE Day celebrations.
Cynthia, 89, who lived in Normanby during the war, remembered watching planes fly over the Eston Hills.    Cynthia said:
"If it had a roundel on it, we all cheered like mad. If it had a swastika, we used to run to the shelters.   Actually, as a nine-year-old, I wasn’t frightened. I didn’t realise how serious the war was.
I remember when it ended we all celebrated like mad, but then I didn’t understand the weight of it all."
Now, decades later, both women found joy in the care home’s tribute to the wartime spirit.
"It’s lovely,” Cynthia said of the celebration. "Everybody’s been busy making things - flags and bunting. It’s been very good."
