11th Hour of 11th Day of 11th Month
Remembrance Day Service
- Thursday 11th November 2021
Our Normanby Local History Group organised a short Remembrance Day Service on Thursday the 11th November 2021 at the Normanby Great War Memorial (corner of High Street & West Street).
Nearly 100 people assembled at the Normanby War Memorial at 10:50am to participate.
Our local chapel minister Reverend Christopher Wood-Archer led the service. This year’s Standard Bearer was Eric Taylor and piper Phil Meadows was in attendance.
John Richardson (Chairman of Normanby Local History Group) led the laying of wreaths. Others then had the opportunity to place their own personal poppy before we dispersed to our homes or places of work.
Due to Covid restrictions this year we did not retire to the Methodist church for the usual refreshments after the ceremony.
Unfortunately Banks Field School could not take part this year. We missed them but hope they will be back for next year’s service.
The High Street was adorned with knitted poppies lovingly prepared by History Group members, their families and friends.
Hope you looked out for them.
Our group thanks all the volunteers who helped with many tasks to ensure all went well on the day.
Special thanks for organising the service is due to Sylvia Fairbrass & Marion Davies - proven to be worthy successors to the late Tom Towers (Normanby LHG Honorary President) who was for many years the main drive to ensure success of our Normanby Service of Remembrance.
